Dr. Stephen Bray’s interest in Sleep Medicine began in the 1990s while practicing in Kelowna, BC. At that time, there was little local continuing education available in the field, so he returned to London, England, where he spent time on Harley Street with Dr. Irshad Ebrahim, a prominent British Sleep Physician.
Recognizing the need for more advanced education, Dr. Bray later attended Tufts University in Boston, completing a Fellowship in Facial Pain and Sleep Disorders. Following this, he remained involved in teaching while continuing his education through Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Children’s Hospital.
He subsequently returned to the UK to complete a Post Graduate Diploma in Behavioural Sleep Medicine at the University of Glasgow. During this period, he also spent time with leading sleep specialists including Mr. Vik Veer Kotecha of London’s Royal National ENT Hospital and Professor Anita Simonds at the Royal Brompton Hospital.
After returning to Kelowna, Dr. Bray worked with the Kelowna Sleep Clinic on predictive testing for Oral Appliance Therapy (OAT). In 2020, he founded the Dental and Behavioural Sleep Medicine Society and the Kelowna Dental Study Club, both of which later evolved into The Sleep Society, an international multidisciplinary sleep society, in 2025.
Dr. Bray is also the founder of Sleep Kelowna, an annual international hybrid meeting for sleep professionals, and SleepSafeBC.ca, through which new provincial sleep and safety initiatives are introduced each year.
